There are some nice examples of hand drawn type on this blog, I particularly like this one by Linzie Hunter made out of some manila coloured paper for drawing sheet music on and the insides of envelopes, really simple but effective. Materials like this are quite cheap to get hold of and with a little consideration can have quite suprising effects. Remember you don't always need to start with a blank white piece of paper to create something beautiful.
