NOW READ THIS (click for article)..

"Develop a point of view. Think about what experiences you have that many others do not. Then, think of what experiences you have that almost everyone else has. Then, mix those two things and try to make someone cry or laugh or feel understood."

"Take things away until you cry. Accept most things, and reject most of your initial ideas. Print it out, chop it up, put it back together. When you’re aimlessly pushing things around on a computer screen, print it out and push it around in real space. Change contexts when you’re stuck. Draw wrong-handed and upside down and backwards. Find a good seat outside."

Illustration Friday

Illustration Friday is a great web resource if you're stuck for inspiration for the current project - I.F sets a weekly theme and invites illustrators of any level to submit an image related to the topic and showcasing the submissions made . There's a great range of different image making styles to look at on the site, so if you're feeling a little stuck in your current ways hopefully this place might give you a few ideas.

As well as this I.F has a selection of interviews with current illustrators - these articles are worth a read to get a feel for what it's like to work as an illustrator, how to overcome creative slumps and how illustrators landed on their own signature styles. Check it out.
